Genoa v Inter Serie A clash called off due to heavy rain

 

     The Serie A match between Genoa and Inter scheduled for Sunday at the Marassi has been called off, the Lega Calcio has confirmed. Authorities including the Mayor of Genoa's office and the Lega held a meeting late on Friday afternoon to discuss the potential of the round 11 fixture moving forward, but it will not go ahead because the safety of fans cannot be guaranteed. The Italian region of Liguria, in the north-western part of the country, has been hit by heavy rain and flooding, and it is believed the weather conditions will not improve before the end of the weekend. The inclement weather has unfortunately resulted in a few deaths and missing persons. Inter sit in 17th position in the Serie A standings while Genoa are 11th, seven points off leaders Juventus.
