Inter must make Champions League return - Juan Jesus
The Nerazzurri have endured an end to the season to
forget as their 3-1 defeat to Lazio on Wednesday consigned them to life
without European football next year Inter defender Juan Jesus
has demanded the side bounce back from a campaign of disappointment and
get themselves back into the Champions League following the Nerazzurri's 3-1 loss to Lazio on Wednesday night.
The
defeat has condemned the club to no European football next season as an
appalling run from November has seen the club drop from second to
eighth, ensuring they miss out on the Europa League spots with only two
games left. However, Juan has vowed to help Inter return to the Champions League - the tournament they won only three years ago.
"It will be a different sort of campaign for us," Juan told Inter Channel. "We'll set out to win [the league though] and we must certainly get Inter back into the Champions League." The
defeat at San Siro in the midweek was their 15th of the season in Serie
A - a worst-ever record for Inter in a 20-team division and the most
losses in a campaign since 1947-48 where they lost 19 games. However, the centre-back defended under-fire head coach Andrea Stramaccioni and looked ahead optimistically to next year.
"The coach knows what to do," Juan said. "He's very good at putting out the best team he has available. "Unfortunately
it didn't go well for us against Lazio. But we tried everything we
could and we played a good game. It's a shame the year's gone the way it
has, hopefully it will go better next season."
Juan's yellow
card in the second half on Wednesday ensures he will miss the
eighth-placed club's penultimate game of the season against Genoa on
Sunday.
